Fact #88

The upcoming film Giants (2016) will be based on Jack and the Beanstalk, making it the second time that fairytale has been used in Disney canon (the first was the ‘Mickey and the Beanstalk’ section of Fun and Fancy Free).

This makes Jack and the Beanstalk the first fairytale to be used twice in Disney canon.


Fact #85

The voice of the Queen and her counter ego, the Witch, were voiced by the same person, Lucille La Verne.

She was told by the animators that an older, raspier version of the Queen’s voice was needed for the Witch. La Verne stepped out of the recording studio and returned a few minutes later, giving a perfect ‘Witch’s voice’ that surprised the animators.

When asked how she did it, she replied “Oh, I just took my teeth out.”

Fact #83

Disney had animation production studios in Sydney Australia, that were operational from 1988 to 2006

Initially they produced tv shows, such as The New Adventures of Winnie the PoohDarkwing DuckGoof TroopAladdinTimon & Pumbaa, and Duck Daze.

They then moved on to film sequels. The first feature film produced was Return to Neverland (2002).

On Rotten Tomatoes, Chicken Little has the lowest rating rating for a Disney animated feature and Pinocchio has the highest.

Fact #77

Retta Scott was the first woman to receive a film  credit as an animator on a Disney film. She first worked on Bambi, then went on to contribute to Fantastia, Dumbo and the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad

Another notable female from Disney was Mary Blair, who did concept art for Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. She had a very distinctive style.

Brenda Chapman was the first female to direct a feature length Pixar film, also becoming the first female to win the Academy award for Best Animated Feature.

More recently, Jennifer Lee became the first female to direct a feature length Disney film.

Fact #74

greg brady

Prince Eric in the Little Mermaid was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes, when he was only 16.

Yes, that’s correct. Eric, was voiced by Greg Brady (of the 1995 Brady Bunch movie).

Barnes has actually done a lot of voice over work. He is well known as the voice of Spider man in the 1994 animated series and also did the voice of Prince Charming in  Cinderella II: Dreams Come True and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.



Fact #71

Pocahontas was going to have a turkey friend called Redfeather, to be voiced by John Candy. However, Candy died during production, and the character was dropped.
